The surgery is done under a light general anesthesia, and modern light general anesthesia is extremely safe, effective, and without many of the side-effects seen in the past.

In some cases, there are associated breathing problems through the nose, which can be due to a deviated septum and/or enlarged turbinate bones in the back of the nose. Both problems can be effectively treated, with a frequently dramatic increase in nasal airflow. Patients therefore not only look better, but they also breathe much more easily, and find that their stamina is improved.

All ethnic groups may benefit from rhinoplasty, and in most cases all of the scars are inside the nose, and are therefore invisible.
